U.S. Highway 65: Lake Village to Louisiana – Arkansas

U.S. Highway 65 - Lake Village to Louisiana - Arkansas | Drive America

Travel with us as we head 25 miles south along U.S. Highway 65 from Lake Village, Arkansas, to the Louisiana state line. This stretch of US-65 offers a peaceful drive through the southeastern corner of Arkansas, hugging the edge of Lake Chicot before making its way down through farmland, historic towns, and wide-open delta landscapes. Our journey begins at the intersection with U.S. Highway 82 in downtown Lake Village—an area known for its ties to river commerce and southern hospitality. Immediately, we find ourselves skirting the scenic west bank of Lake Chicot, the largest natural oxbow lake in North America and a popular spot for fishing, boating, and birdwatching.

As we round the lake, US-65 meets U.S. Highway 278 just east of the lakefront. Here, we continue heading due south into Arkansas’s rich agricultural belt. The terrain is quintessential Delta country—flat, fertile, and lined with rows of crops stretching toward the horizon. Cotton fields, soybean patches, and farm silos dot the roadside, offering a living snapshot of Arkansas’s farming backbone. There’s a quiet beauty in this route, with the occasional roadside church, country store, or tin-roof barn adding texture to the drive. Along the way, travelers might catch glimpses of migratory birds resting in the wetlands or spot crop dusters swooping low in the distance.

Before long, we enter Eudora, a small but historically significant town just north of the Louisiana line. At the junction with Arkansas Highway 8, the heart of Eudora reveals itself—an old main street with weathered storefronts, classic Southern homes, and a sense of community resilience. The town may be small, but its roots run deep in the Delta’s cultural fabric. After passing through Eudora, we continue our trek southward on US-65, crossing the state line into Louisiana a few miles later. From here, the road continues into Millikin and toward Lake Providence, but our video journey concludes at the state border. It’s a short but memorable slice of southeastern Arkansas that captures the slower pace and rural charm of the region.
