If you’re up for a short but truly memorable drive, Arkansas Highway 23 from Eureka Springs to Eagle Rock, Missouri packs plenty of charm into just 12 miles. We start our journey heading north out of the vibrant town of Eureka Springs, a spot known for its quirky downtown, steep hills, and Victorian architecture nestled deep in the Ozarks. Highway 23 itself is sometimes known as the “Pig Trail Scenic Byway” further south, but this northern stretch delivers plenty of scenic beauty and local flavor all its own.
Rolling out of Eureka Springs, the road quickly trades city sights for rolling hills, thick woodlands, and winding curves—classic Ozark terrain that’s especially inviting for anyone who enjoys a relaxing, wooded drive. Just a couple miles outside town, we hit the intersection with Arkansas Highway 187. If you’re looking for a quick detour, this is your turnoff for Holiday Island, a lakeside community that borders Table Rock Lake. Holiday Island is a great place to stop for a picnic, stretch your legs, or even rent a boat and get out on the water. You’ll also find a few golf courses and scenic lookouts along the shoreline, perfect for a low-key afternoon.
Heading north again, Highway 23 continues to snake through the forest, with the landscape opening up as we approach the state line. This stretch is often quiet, with light traffic and plenty of chances to spot wildlife or just enjoy the dense woods typical of the region. Just before the border, there’s a subtle shift—crossing into Missouri, Arkansas Highway 23 officially becomes Missouri Supplemental Route P. The character of the road stays the same, though: rural, tree-lined, and full of that Ozarks magic.
The final mile along Route P leads us right into Eagle Rock, Missouri. It’s a small lakeside community just off the shore of Table Rock Lake, a reservoir known for its crystal-clear waters, fishing spots, and recreational boating. Eagle Rock itself is more of a jumping-off point for lake adventures than a bustling town, but it’s the perfect spot to wrap up the drive or continue east onto Missouri Highway 86. If you’re into camping, boating, or just soaking up the lake life, this is a fantastic place to spend some time.
