Arkansas Highway 25: Greenbrier to Heber Springs – Arkansas

Travel with us through the heart of central Arkansas as we head north along Arkansas Highway 25, covering 26 miles from Greenbrier to Heber Springs. This stretch of AR-25 offers a scenic and laid-back drive that connects the bustling U.S. 65 corridor to the recreational gem of Greers Ferry Lake. With rolling hills, small towns, and plenty of rural charm, this drive is both relaxing and a convenient route for travelers headed toward the Ozark foothills.

We begin our journey just north of Greenbrier, where Highway 25 branches off from U.S. Highway 65. Greenbrier is a rapidly growing bedroom community of Conway, but it still holds tight to its rural character. As we turn northeast onto AR-25, the terrain quickly transitions into more open countryside, dotted with grazing fields, patches of forest, and the occasional glimpse of distant ridge lines. After a few miles, we enter the small town of Guy, a community of just a few hundred residents that serves as a quiet waypoint for locals and visitors alike. Despite its modest size, Guy sits at a scenic midpoint between the Arkansas River Valley and the mountain lakes to the north.

From Guy, the highway meanders east briefly before curving back to the northeast, keeping things visually interesting with a mix of gentle grades and open views. Along this stretch, drivers can expect to pass through a mosaic of farmland and scattered woodlots — a perfect picture of rural Arkansas. The next major stop is the town of Quitman, a small but lively community with a more defined town center. Here, Highway 25 intersects several state highways: AR-107, AR-124, and AR-356. These junctions make Quitman something of a local hub, and while it’s small in size, it’s a useful refueling point or snack stop.

Continuing through Quitman, we head northeast again at the intersection with AR-124. This portion of Highway 25 gently climbs in elevation as we push into the outer edge of the Ozarks. We pass the northern end of AR-107, a reminder of just how interconnected these country roads are. Not long after that, we cross Arkansas Highway 16, which provides access to more remote areas of Cleburne County and further east into Greers Ferry territory.

As we press onward, the land begins to hint at what’s coming — the trees get taller, the terrain more varied, and the occasional bluff peeks out above the treeline. Though we don’t officially enter Heber Springs in this video, the route ends just before it, at the junction with Arkansas Highway 5, southwest of town. Heber Springs itself is a well-loved lakeside destination known for fishing, boating, and the iconic Greers Ferry Dam — a structure you’ll encounter just a bit further north if you continue on AR-25.

If you’re planning to explore this part of Arkansas, this drive is a gentle but rewarding approach into Heber Springs. You won’t find tourist traps or urban traffic — just small towns, wide-open skies, and the slow buildup to one of the most scenic areas in the state.
