Arkansas Highway 10: Greenwood to Booneville

Arkansas Highway 10 - Greenwood to Booneville | Drive America

Take a scenic 21-mile drive with us across western Arkansas as we follow Arkansas Highway 10 from Greenwood to Booneville. This eastbound route offers a pleasant mix of small-town charm, wooded ridges, and glimpses of rural life that feel uniquely Arkansan. Whether you’re just out for a leisurely drive or following Highway 10 across the state, this segment offers a few points of interest along the way.

We begin our journey in the heart of Greenwood, just east of the historic town square, turning onto AR-10 from a local service station. Greenwood itself is a lovely small city with a well-preserved downtown, and it’s worth spending a few minutes checking out the Sebastian County Museum or relaxing around the town’s central gazebo before heading out. Leaving the city behind, we cross Heartsill Creek and skirt residential neighborhoods before meeting the junction with Arkansas Highway 96, which continues west toward Lavaca and Fort Chaffee.

Once we’re past the AR-96 intersection, the landscape quickly shifts into rolling hills and increasingly rural terrain. Around the 3-mile mark, the highway begins a descent in elevation, winding gently through a forested stretch that marks the beginning of the Washburn area. This tiny unincorporated community doesn’t have much in the way of development, but the road here offers sweeping views of the surrounding valleys, especially in the cooler months when the trees have thinned. Just past Washburn, we cross the northern terminus of Arkansas Highway 252, which runs south toward Mansfield and intersects with US-71.

Continuing eastbound, we pass through a mixture of open fields and dense tree stands, offering up brief but beautiful peeks at the low ridges that dot this region of the state. The terrain here is typical of western Arkansas—forested slopes broken up by farmland and clusters of homes. Before long, we intersect with one of the several disconnected sections of Arkansas Highway 60, a curious quirk in the state’s highway system. This particular segment comes in from the southwest and doesn’t continue east beyond our route.

As we approach Booneville, the road flattens out and residential development begins to reappear. Booneville is a larger town than Greenwood and serves as a regional hub for southern Logan County. You’ll notice the shift in energy here, with more traffic, schools, and local businesses lining the approach. We end our drive at a service station just east of the Booneville Community Hospital, making it a convenient stop for fuel, snacks, or a quick rest before continuing along Arkansas Highway 10 toward Magazine or Danville.
