U.S. Route 425: Star City to Monticello – Arkansas

US Highway 425 - Star City to Monticello - Arkansas | Drive America

Take a pleasant drive with us as we explore the charm and character of southeast Arkansas along a 22-mile stretch of U.S. Route 425, traveling south from Star City to Monticello. This relaxing journey blends small-town Americana with lush landscapes, highlighting both rural and community life in this quiet corner of the Natural State.

We begin our journey at the intersection of US-425 and Arkansas Highway 114 in the heart of Star City, a welcoming small town with a history rooted deeply in agriculture and timber. As we head south along the town’s main drag, we encounter intersections with AR-11 and AR-293, passing local businesses, homes, and glimpses of life unfolding at a leisurely pace. Before long, the built environment gives way to fields, farms, and forests near County Road 29, signaling our transition out of Star City and into the tranquil Arkansas countryside.

Continuing southward, the drive quickly settles into an easy rhythm. Scenic views of farmland and pockets of dense woodland accompany us, painting a soothing backdrop as we cross intersections with AR-54 and another junction with AR-11. Shortly thereafter, we breeze through the small rural communities of Relfs Bluff and Montongo—places where life moves slowly and traditions remain strong. These communities are brief but charming snapshots, offering a sense of continuity and timelessness against the shifting landscape.

As Monticello approaches, signs of urban life gradually return. Entering town at the intersection with AR-35, we pass through a commercial district brimming with familiar conveniences—restaurants, gas stations, and local shops—that cater to residents and travelers alike. Monticello serves as the seat of Drew County and is home to the University of Arkansas at Monticello, lending the town a vibrant, youthful atmosphere. Our journey concludes at the interchange with US-278, marking a fitting end to a drive rich in both rural charm and community spirit.

Driving along US-425 from Star City to Monticello is more than just a pleasant road trip—it’s a brief immersion into the fabric of southeast Arkansas life. With its mixture of small towns, agricultural expanses, and welcoming communities, this route encapsulates the region’s quiet but enduring appeal.
