U.S. Highway 70: Eastbound in Little Rock – Arkansas

U.S. Highway 70 Eastbound in Little Rock - Arkansas | Drive America

U.S. Highway 70 eastbound through Little Rock offers a short but dense glimpse into the capital city’s evolving urban landscape. In this video, we follow the highway as it runs along Broadway Avenue, beginning at the intersection with Arkansas Highway 365—also known as Roosevelt Road—on the southern edge of downtown Little Rock. From there, we head generally northeast, traveling just under 2 miles through a corridor that blends civic, commercial, and historic elements.

Shortly after turning onto Broadway Avenue, U.S. 70 passes under the elevated lanes of Interstate 630, one of the city’s major east-west freeways. This marks the point where we officially enter the downtown district. The surroundings become increasingly urban, with government buildings, hotels, and high-rises lining the street. Not far to the west are prominent civic landmarks like the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts and MacArthur Park, while just east lies the Clinton Presidential Library and Heifer International headquarters—both reachable with only a minor detour.

As we continue north along Broadway, the Arkansas River draws closer, though it remains just out of sight for much of the route. Along the way, we pass through a stretch of Little Rock that serves as a connective artery between cultural sites and modern business centers. Broadway Avenue in this segment is characterized by wide lanes, synchronized traffic signals, and a mix of older brick storefronts and new infill development. The energy here is balanced between its role as a working commuter route and its access to downtown destinations.

The video concludes at the intersection of Broadway and Markham Street—right near the Little Rock Marriott and the Robinson Center, two key downtown landmarks. Markham Street is also a historically significant corridor in its own right, running parallel to the river and connecting to several of Little Rock’s most notable sites. Just ahead from this intersection is the Broadway Bridge, which carries US-70 across the Arkansas River into North Little Rock. That crossing is not shown in this video, but it represents the natural continuation of the highway for eastbound travelers.
