U.S. Highway 165: England to North Little Rock – Arkansas

U.S. Highway 165 - England to North Little Rock - Arkansas | Drive America

Journey with us for 22 miles along U.S. Highway 165 as we head north through the Arkansas Delta, beginning in the small agricultural town of England and ending just shy of downtown North Little Rock. This route showcases a transition from quiet farmland to the edge of one of Arkansas’s busiest metro areas—all within a short, scenic stretch of blacktop.

We begin our drive at the junction of Arkansas Highway 15 and U.S. 165 in England. After briefly heading west, we turn north at Main Street to stay on US-165, passing through a mix of residential neighborhoods and rural cropland. Just a few miles up the road, we reach the historic town of Keo, where the highway bends northwest. Keo is known for its old-school downtown charm, cotton gins, and antique shops—worth a quick detour if you’re not in a rush. Not far past Keo, you’ll find the junction with AR-386, a spur that leads west to Toltec Mounds Archaeological State Park, one of the most significant Native American mound sites in the region and a hidden gem for history buffs.

Continuing northwest, the road brings us through the small communities of Toltec and Hamiter, where you’ll catch glimpses of the flat, fertile farmland that defines much of this part of Arkansas. At Baucum, the highway curves gently westward and skirts past the Plantation Agriculture Museum State Park in Scott, which offers a fascinating look at Arkansas’s farming heritage. The museum sits just off the route and makes a convenient stop to stretch your legs and dive into some local history.

As we approach the edge of the metro, the landscape subtly shifts. Farms give way to light industry, scattered neighborhoods, and eventually the urban feel of North Little Rock. Nearing Interstate 440, US-165 picks up more traffic and merges with city life. The video concludes at the highway’s northern terminus at the intersection with U.S. Highway 70, not far from the Arkansas River and the heart of downtown North Little Rock.

Whether you’re just passing through or heading into the city from the Delta, this stretch of US-165 offers a relaxed and gently scenic route with glimpses of Arkansas’s past and present.
