Join us as we drive 15 scenic miles west along Arkansas Highway 14, from the heart of Yellville to the junction with Arkansas Highway 125 near Dodd City. This stretch of road takes us through the rugged, rolling terrain of north-central Arkansas and offers a peaceful mix of small-town charm, wooded hillsides, and a few sweeping mountain views along the way.
We begin our drive at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62 and AR-14 in Yellville, a small but bustling Marion County town nestled near Crooked Creek. As we turn north onto AR-14, we immediately begin a steady climb out of the valley, gradually ascending a low mountain as we make our way toward the neighboring town of Summit. Summit, though more residential in character, feels like an extension of Yellville, and it’s here that we encounter the junction with Arkansas Highway 202, which heads east toward Flippin and Bull Shoals Lake.
Leaving Summit, Highway 14 becomes a bit more rural in character. The road curves gracefully around the hillside, following the contours of the Ozark terrain as it transitions from town to countryside. This part of the drive is pleasantly winding, with forested ridges to the north and occasional glimpses of pastureland and hollows opening up to the south. It’s a classic Ozark foothills drive—tight curves, elevation changes, and the kind of quiet two-lane solitude that makes rural Arkansas driving so appealing.
As we continue northwest, we pass the small community of Dodd City, which is more of a geographic reference than a formal town. The surroundings grow more wooded as we descend slightly toward a flatter stretch of road. Near Dodd City, AR-14 begins to curve northward again, where we soon reach the intersection with Arkansas Highway 125. This is where we wrap up our journey, turning north onto AR-125, which will eventually take us to Peel Ferry and across Bull Shoals Lake if we keep going.
If you’re planning a trip through this part of Arkansas, this short but engaging segment of Highway 14 is worth the detour—especially if you’re connecting to scenic drives further north on AR-125. It’s a great lead-in to the Peel Ferry crossing and a pleasant drive on its own through a part of the Ozarks that feels largely unchanged.
