Arkansas Highway 10: Hackett to Greenwood

Let’s explore a classic stretch of western Arkansas as we cruise east for about 10 miles along Arkansas Highway 10, from the quiet community of Hackett to the bustling small town of Greenwood. We begin our journey on the shared stretch of Arkansas Highway 45 and Highway 10, merging onto the route right in Hackett. Almost immediately, the two highways split: Highway 45 peels off to the north while Highway 10 carries us straight ahead. Just past the fork, we swing east and leave the town behind, trading neighborhood streets for the calm of the countryside.

The road quickly settles into a scenic rhythm typical of this part of Sebastian County—rolling gently through a patchwork of shady woodland and small, family-run farms. This part of Highway 10 doesn’t see heavy traffic, making it an easygoing drive where you can take in the views without too much distraction. You’ll pass the intersection with Arkansas Highway 253 about halfway along this stretch—one of the few points where the landscape briefly opens up to farmland on both sides. This crossing is an important local link but doesn’t pull away from the rural vibe that defines the route.

East of Highway 253, the surroundings grow a bit more populated as we approach Greenwood. Before we reach town proper, we hit our main crossroads: U.S. Highway 71, a well-traveled north-south corridor through western Arkansas. After crossing US-71, Highway 10 threads us straight into Greenwood’s edge. The route swings north for a short jog on Coker Street, guiding us past local shops and homes toward the historic downtown district. We wrap up this drive right at the heart of Greenwood, near the junction with Arkansas Highway 10 Spur, just steps away from the town’s courthouse square—a fitting finish to a short but character-filled Arkansas byway.
