Arkansas Highway 84: Social Hill to De Roche

Let’s take a leisurely 10-mile spin through central Arkansas as we follow Arkansas Highway 84 from Social Hill to De Roche. This stretch offers a straightforward but pleasant drive that links a quiet rural crossroads with the pine-lined byways near De Roche and Caddo Valley.

We begin this ride just east of Social Hill, turning onto Highway 84 at Grigsby Ford Road in Oak Grove. Not long after rolling out, we encounter the busy crossing at Interstate 30—a key junction for anyone heading towards Malvern or Arkadelphia. After the interchange, Highway 84 settles into its westbound course through lightly forested terrain and occasional open fields. It’s a simple, comfortable two-lane route, but keep your eyes open: the area is dotted with small homesteads and the gentle hum of everyday country life.

About eight miles down the road, Highway 84 intersects with Arkansas Highway 128 north. From here, the final stretch carries us the last mile into De Roche itself. This small community doesn’t have a big downtown scene, but it does serve as a handy link for travelers heading toward Lake DeGray or exploring the rolling backroads that wind toward Caddo Valley. We wrap up our drive at the intersection with AR-128 south, where a turn to the left would take us toward the Caddo River and deeper into the Ouachita foothills.

If you’re exploring the area, consider a side trip to DeGray Lake Resort State Park—just a few miles south near Caddo Valley. It’s an easy detour and worth it for fishing, boating, or simply soaking up Arkansas’s quiet beauty.
