Arkansas Highway 10: Danville to Havana

Arkansas Highway 10: Danville to Havana | Drive America

If you’re looking for a short but classic slice of Arkansas highway, the stretch of Arkansas Highway 10 between Danville and Havana is a fantastic drive through the heart of Yell County. While only about nine miles from end to end, this route packs in a mix of small-town character, rolling countryside, and easy connections to some of the most scenic spots in the state.

Starting out in Danville, we head northbound as AR-10 runs concurrently with Arkansas Highway 27 for just a bit. Danville itself is a quintessential small Arkansas town, complete with a charming courthouse square, local diners, and that slower pace you only find off the main interstate grid. If you have time before hitting the road, it’s worth grabbing a bite or stretching your legs around the square to get a feel for the local community.

After a short northbound segment, we split west at the intersection with highway 27—this is where AR-27 heads its own way, and we stay on AR-10, rolling toward Havana. Almost immediately, the landscape shifts to open farmland and wide fields, dotted here and there with clusters of trees and classic Southern homes. You’ll pass through Belleville about halfway along the drive. Belleville is another small stop, mostly residential with a few local businesses and churches—a reminder of how tightly-knit these rural Arkansas communities are. Shortly after, keep an eye out for the intersection with Arkansas Highway 307, which offers a shortcut north toward the foot of Mount Magazine if you’re aiming for the big views ahead.

The scenery here is pure Arkansas—rolling fields, distant hills, and the occasional tractor at work. It’s a peaceful drive with hardly any traffic, so you can relax and take in the view. Depending on the season, you might spot hay bales, wildflowers, or the golden glow of a Southern sunset over the pastures. There aren’t a ton of traditional “attractions” along this stretch, but that’s part of the charm—it’s all about the laid-back, open-road vibe.

Approaching Havana, you’ll notice the outline of Mount Magazine rising to the north. Havana itself is a small community, but it’s a key junction for anyone heading to the outdoors. As you enter town, AR-10 meets Arkansas Highway 309—your gateway to one of the most scenic climbs in the state. Turn right onto AR-309 and you’re on your way up to Mount Magazine State Park, home to the highest point in Arkansas and some truly stunning overlooks, hiking, and camping.

While this segment of AR-10 is more about the journey than any specific destination, it’s a great connector for anyone exploring west-central Arkansas. Whether you’re heading up to the mountain, continuing west toward Booneville, or just enjoying a rural drive, you’ll get a real sense of the region’s landscape and culture.
