Arkansas Highway 310: Sidon to Albion

Arkansas Highway 310: Sidon to Albion | Drive America

If you’re looking for an authentic slice of rural Arkansas, a drive along Arkansas Highway 310 from Sidon to Albion delivers just that. Covering 13 scenic miles, this eastbound route offers up a rolling landscape dotted with tiny towns, hidden hollows, and classic Southern countryside—perfect for those who enjoy meandering backroads and discovering what lies just off the main highways. Let’s ride together from Highway 36 near Sidon, taking in every notable turn, view, and local landmark along the way.

We kick things off just south of Sidon, turning north onto Arkansas Highway 310 from AR-36. The route wastes no time in setting the small-town vibe; after about two and a half miles of gentle hills and farmland, we bend east into Sidon itself. Sidon is the kind of place you could blink and miss if you’re not paying attention—just a handful of homes, maybe a church or two, and an unmistakable sense of old Arkansas charm. Keep your eyes open for tractors in the fields and maybe even a resident or two out tending their yard.

Heading east out of Sidon, the landscape opens up before a quick descent brings us into the community of Pickens. This area, like much of White County, is defined by rolling terrain and hardwood groves, with stretches of open pastureland interrupted by wooded patches. In the spring and summer, the roadside is alive with wildflowers and the soft buzz of cicadas—an underrated sensory treat if you crack your windows. As we approach Letona, the route turns northeast to enter town.

Letona is another one of those small Arkansas towns that time seems to have left mostly untouched. It’s a peaceful, residential community with just enough signs of life to remind you folks do, in fact, live here. As you pass through, the road makes a memorable S-curve on the eastern side of town—slow down here, both for the curve and for a chance to spot old barns and maybe even some vintage signage from days gone by.

Exiting Letona, Highway 310 descends “Letona Hill,” a spot locals know for its view across the tree line and the quick drop in elevation. There’s a fun little southeast stretch just past the hill—perfect for stretching your legs if you’re on a bike, as we did for a quick bag check. The last mile eastbound is classic Arkansas blacktop, with roadside woods gradually giving way to more open farmland as we approach Albion.

The route ends at the junction with Arkansas Highway 16, just north of the community of Albion. While the drive itself is fairly straightforward, it’s a perfect example of why Arkansas’s state highways are so enjoyable: rural landscapes, friendly small towns, and the kind of laid-back driving that lets you truly relax and enjoy the journey. If you have extra time, consider exploring AR-16 north or south from this intersection—both directions promise more of the same scenic, rural charm, and easy connections to other highways and small communities nearby.
