Missouri Route 76: Reeds Spring to Cape Fair

Missouri Route 76: Reeds Spring to Cape Fair | Drive America

If you’re looking for a classic Ozarks drive that captures all the charm of southwest Missouri, our 9-mile cruise along Missouri Route 76 from Reeds Spring to Cape Fair delivers. This scenic stretch doesn’t just connect two small towns—it’s packed with rolling hills, lake views, and that unmistakable “Ozark backroad” vibe. Whether you’re out for a leisurely afternoon or heading to the water for a day of fishing, this drive is a perfect snapshot of the area’s natural beauty.

We kick things off in Reeds Spring, where MO-76 splits off from MO-413. Reeds Spring itself is a friendly, low-key gateway to Branson’s quieter side, with a handful of local diners and shops worth a stop before you head out. As soon as you turn onto Route 76, you’re immediately enveloped by rolling woodland and glimpses of rocky outcrops typical of the region. If you’re hungry for a classic Ozark breakfast or some fried catfish, Reeds Spring Café is a local legend—definitely worth a visit if you have a little extra time.

Heading west out of town, Route 76 quickly settles into its rhythm: gentle curves, wooded hollows, and a few well-marked intersections. You’ll pass by the junctions with Supplemental Route Y and later HH, both of which meander off into the countryside if you’re ever in the mood to explore some lesser-known backroads. This whole region is dotted with small farms, lush meadows, and the occasional roadside produce stand, especially in late summer and fall.

The landscape gets even more interesting as you approach Table Rock Lake. The road makes a distinct southwest turn, and suddenly you’re winding your way down toward the water. The lake views here are fantastic—if you have a few minutes, there are plenty of pull-offs and parking areas to enjoy a quick photo op or just take in the view. Table Rock Lake is one of Missouri’s top destinations for boating, fishing, and swimming, so you’ll likely see anglers and kayakers making the most of it. Just before entering Cape Fair, Route 76 crosses the lake—one of those classic Ozarks moments that feels like a world away from the interstate grind.

Once you roll into Cape Fair, the pace slows. This lakeside town is best known for its laid-back vibe and access to Table Rock Lake. If you’re up for some fresh air, Cape Fair Marina is just off the main drag and a great spot to stretch your legs or rent a boat for the day. From here, Route 76 briefly turns north before ending at the intersection with Missouri Route 173. Cape Fair itself isn’t big, but it’s a hub for fishing, camping, and summer fun. If you’re into camping or RVing, there are several spots nearby that put you right on the lake.
