Driving southbound on Fairplay Road from Lonsdale to Glen Rose, we’re treated to a short but scenic ride through the wooded hills of central Arkansas. This five-mile segment may not be long in distance, but it offers a peaceful, tree-lined journey that feels far removed from the busier highways that bookend it. The route begins just east of Lonsdale, where we turn off U.S. Highway 70 onto Fairplay Road—a two-lane rural connector that threads through the Saline County countryside.
As we leave Lonsdale behind, the road immediately dips into densely forested surroundings. The trees here form a natural canopy, especially during the warmer months, making this drive particularly inviting during spring and fall. Wildlife sightings aren’t uncommon in these parts—keep an eye out for deer crossing signs, as well as the occasional glimpse of wild turkeys or hawks overhead. The land here is gently rolling, with occasional clearings that open up to reveal small farms and rural homes tucked away from the road.
Continuing south, we approach the outskirts of Glen Rose, a small unincorporated community best known for its proximity to both Interstate 30 and the historic Military Road. As Fairplay Road descends into Glen Rose, the forest begins to thin out slightly. Just before reaching our terminus, we cross into the developed area around I-30. The drive concludes at the intersection with Military Road, just north of the I-30 overpass. From here, you can easily connect to Rockport via Military Road, or head east toward Little Rock via I-30.
Though this stretch of Fairplay Road may be lightly traveled, it serves as an important local route between rural communities and the interstate corridor. It also forms part of a larger scenic network in Saline and Garland counties, ideal for casual drives, motorcycle rides, or even weekend cycling. Whether you’re just passing through or planning a longer regional drive, Fairplay Road offers a brief but beautiful detour worth checking out.
