Barber Motorsports Parkway: Birmingham – Alabama

Barber Motorsports Parkway: Birmingham - Alabama | Drive America

Explore a short but scenic drive along the Barber Motorsports Parkway, a 2-mile stretch of road that serves as the gateway to one of Alabama’s most iconic destinations for motorsports fans: the Barber Motorsports Park and Museum. Nestled just east of Birmingham near the town of Leeds, this route offers more than just a road—it’s the introduction to a world-class motorsports experience surrounded by rolling hills, lush forest, and modern racing history.

Our journey begins at the intersection of U.S. Route 78 and Rex Lake Road in Leeds. From here, we head southbound for a short distance, following the gently curving four-lane road past scattered wooded pockets. It’s a calm and easy drive, but the sense of anticipation builds as we approach our turn west onto Barber Motorsports Parkway. This modern, well-maintained parkway is designed to accommodate both everyday visitors and high-volume traffic on race weekends, with clear signage and well-manicured landscaping hinting at what’s ahead.

As we follow Barber Motorsports Parkway west, the setting quickly shifts from suburban to serene. The roadway is surrounded by dense trees that open up just enough to reveal occasional views of the facilities ahead. While the drive itself is short—clocking in at just about two miles—it’s packed with purpose. You’ll pass the entrance to the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, a stunning five-story facility that houses over 1,600 motorcycles and race cars, including one of the largest collections of Lotus cars in the world. Whether you’re into motorsports history or just want to marvel at incredible engineering, this museum is worth a dedicated visit.

Continuing on, you’ll also find the Barber Motorsports Park, a 2.38-mile road course that hosts everything from IndyCar and MotoAmerica races to local driving schools and Porsche Track Experience events. The park is beautifully integrated into the landscape, with elevation changes and flowing curves that make it a favorite among drivers and spectators alike. On event days, the road is often bustling with fans making their way in, but during quieter times, it’s a peaceful drive with the occasional glimpse of a racecar testing on the track.

Though the video ends at the entrance to the park, you’ll want to plan ahead if you’re visiting the area. Nearby attractions include Leeds’ historic downtown, which is just a short drive away and offers local dining, small shops, and Southern charm. For outdoor enthusiasts, Lake Purdy and the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area are both within a 10-minute drive, offering hiking, fishing, and wildlife observation. Whether you’re a gearhead or just looking for a scenic drive with a purpose, Barber Motorsports Parkway is a hidden gem in the Birmingham area.
